Specific Health Concerns:

Pugs' short noses and narrow nostrils can lead to breathing difficulties.This can manifest as snoring, gagging, and exercise intolerance. 

Eye Problems:

Their prominent eyes are prone to corneal ulcers, dry eye, and proptosis (when the eye pops out). 

Skin Fold Dermatitis:

The wrinkles on their faces and bodies can trap moisture and debris, leading to infections and inflammation. 

Orthopedic Issues:

Hip and elbow dysplasia are common, causing pain, lameness, and arthritis. Luxating patella (dislocated kneecap) is also a concern. 

Neurological Problems:

PDE, Pug Dog Encephalitis, is fatal brain inflammation is specific to Pugs. 

Other Issues:

Pugs can also be prone to allergies, obesity, and demodectic mange-a skin condition caused by mites. 

Breeding for Health:

While many health issues are linked to the breed's conformation, responsible breeders are working to improve health by conducting all the recommended genetic health tests.
