The History of the GREATER ATLANta PUG CLUB
Several things occurred on the 14th of April 1979. Pug judging was schedules for approximately 12 noon, at the Macon Kennel Club Show, it was never completed. A tornado arrived during open dogs sand cancelled the show. Just think how any pugs “would” have finished that day. Most importantly everyone and their pugs arrived safely in Atlanta. That evening , was the formative meeting of the first Greater Atlanta Pug Club. The first fun match was planned for July the 1st in 1979. with charter membership open for the first match. We would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge our Charter Members:
Colleen and June Hertzler, Patterson T. Cox. Carol and Ned Guttman. Judy Massey, Charlotte and Ed Patterson, Carol Perry, Dr. Julius C, Hughes. Doug and Vicki Pharris, Jan and Ronnie Plott, . Jean G. Price, Pat and Larry Shepherd, and Frank and Micki Theisen.
After 5 successful fun matches, our first B-OB Match took place December5, 1981. Three B-OB preceded our arrival at the A-OA status. Our second A-OA match was completed on St. Patrick’s Day , March 17, 1984.
On July 16, 1984, the Greater Atlanta Pug Club was approved by the AKC to hold licensed events.
We are very proud of all our shows. With time to finalize plans, our hard working membership worked together to plan these shows and make it the best Pug Specialty a true reality in Georgia. We thank all who join us and keep this dream and pug excellence alive. We hope that all who join our club and your stay in Atlanta will be enjoyed by all. Everyone and their pugs are the lifeblood and the excellence that continues today.
